We have covered two more tenses: Present Perfect and Present Perfect Continuous. Pronouns are words that are used instead of nouns, to avoid noun repetition. Last time, we talked about reflexive pronouns. Reflexive pronouns are used when the subject and the object of a sentence are the same person. Study the sentences below:
Singular Reflexive Pronouns: First person - myself Second person - yourself Third person - himself / herself / itself Plural Reflexive pronouns: First person - ourselves Second person - yourselves Third person - themselves MIND THE TRAP!! Study the following sentence: Mary is combing her hair. not Mary is brushing herself. In English, verbs such as comb, brush, shave, wash do not take reflexive pronouns. Practice: 1. This week we will be discussing how to give our opinion about something, and how to justify it. The list of the expressions we'll be studying is available for download below:
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: You probably feel very strongly about some topic - teen life, school, fashion, music... Your task is to write a dialogue with some of the expressions for giving and justifying opinions we've learned, practice it at home, and bring it in next time for some further in class practice.
